Monday, June 2 Beirut The Brunettes Santa Fe Brewing Company
37 Fire Place
(Just Off NM Highway 14) 6:30 PM
Tonight's show with Beirut is sold out! (If you like the elements that Zach mines in Beirut, you should check our some of our upcoming shows, notably Moira Smiley & VOCO on June 14 and Fishtank Ensemble on July 30)
Beirut is the name of Santa Fe native Zach Condon's one-man band. Though young, Condon has already released a few albums. He recorded under the name Real People when he was 15, which was an electronic record admittedly fashioned after his love of the Magnetic Fields. At 16, he recorded an entire doo-wop album that was inspired by Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers. Condon attended Santa Fe High School, where he was a student until he dropped out at the age of 16 to travel Europe, where he was first exposed to Balkan gypsy music. Beirut's latest album, The Flying Club Cup, is an homage to France's culture, fashion, history and music. In fact, each song intends to evoke a different French city.
"With so many instruments in the mix, Beirut have hit on something wholly unique, never aping any band, nor any genre we could think of. And yet with all that lush Middle Eastern orchestration, Condon's hypnotic warble never leaves center stage." -Stereogum
"The Flying Club Cup contains a sense of intrigue that pulls the listener in beguilingly... It's thoughtful and fun and sophisticated, utterly alluring, another fantastic success by Zach Condon." -All Music Guide
