photoMark Olson was a founding member of The Jayhawks, the most acclaimed band to emerge out of the alt-country scene. He left the Jayhawks in 1996, after the release of the band's biggest-selling album, Tomorrow The Green Grass, but continued to record music with his new band, The Creekdippers, at his new home in the California desert.

Mark recently finished recording his first true solo album, The Salvation Blues, with producer Ben Vaughn. A deeply personal album, Mark's voice and poetic lyrics are complemented by Vaughn’s gorgeous musical backdrops featuring the work of some of LA's best studio musicians. The album also features the long-awaited reunion with his former Jayhawks bandmate and writing partner, Gary Louris, on three songs.

"Salvation Blues is the kind of contemporary singer/songwriter record that we need more of: poetry as part and parcel of life itself, captured in a music so utterly simple and convincing, it is almost impossible to separate it from the artist who made it—except that it recalls our own experiences so closely in places we have no choice but to give thanks to the man who exposed our inner selves even as he exposes his own. Salvation Blues is stripped down, modern desert country music at its very best."

photoOpening the show will be Boris McCutcheon, who will be performing as a duo with Brett Davis on guitar, lap steel and banjo. Boris was born on Massachusetts farmland, but has found his place in the mountains of New Mexico. His writing and music are reflections of the characters he has encountered and the landscapes he has surrounded himself with. Currently, the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo mountains provide inspiration but his songs are peppered with experiences on the shores of Cape Cod, Northern California, and Southwest deserts.

Boris' first two albums, Mother Ditch (2001) and When We Were Big (2003), were self-released and helped launch his career internationally. His most recent album, Cactusman vs. the Blue Demon (2005), as well as an album currently in production, are on the Frogville label out of Santa Fe, New Mexico.

$15 advance, $20 day of show.
